Say You’ll Remember Me ⎼ Abby Jimenez

“There is nothing more beautiful than being a witness to someone’s life. To know them inside and out and be with them through everything, share the same memories. Memories are everything, I want that.”

Say You’ll Remember Me, Abby Jimenez

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Here’s my caveat before I dive in: I like most of Abby Jimenez’s books. To me, they’re the definition of a guilty pleasure, easy to read, full of ridiculous characters and some cringey language, but usually a fun read that lightly highlights serious topics. Even Just for the Summer, which dealt with some heavier issues, was still mostly goofy fun.

Say You’ll Remember Me was not fun. Samantha and Xavier were not fully developed, and even after 300 pages, I felt like I had no connection to either one. While they have some fun and biting banter, their insta-love is shocking and inexplicable. They go on one date, she’s moving from Minnesota to LA, and they decide to just keep on dating. And that’s the least bizarre choice in the whole book.

And while this book is marketed as a romance, the deeper story is about a family dealing with a health issue. Samantha’s mom has severe dementia, and the family is trying to work together so she doesn’t have to live in a memory care facility. With the majority of the plot being propelled by this storyline, the overall tone is exhausted depression instead of romantic joy.

If you loved this book, I’m really happy for you. I also think that maybe you just like that Xavier was compared to Rhysand MULTIPLE times and that TikTok was a main topic of conversation. Or you really, really love mustard. And if you didn’t like the book (or just want to be nosy), click here for my MUCH longer & spoiler-filled rant!
