If It Makes You Happy ⎼ Julie Olivia

Trust me, I didn’t think taking over my mom’s dream bed and breakfast in Copper Run Vermont was going to be easy. It should be a good place to heal after my divorce. But apparently my scones belong in the garbage with my small talk skills. As pointed out by none other than Cliff.
Cliff is inescapable. He knows exactly what people need–always. His charm, the way he wears flannel, and even his pastries, make not wanting to be friends with Cliff and his daughters pretty hard.

If It Makes You Happy, Julie Olivia

Rating: 4 out of 5.

If your mind is currently filled with denim jackets, flannel shirts, dark tights, thigh-high boots, crisp air, and 90s fall favorites, you’re going to love this book. If you’ve been searching for a gender-swapped Gilmore Girls, with a sweet single dad and a standoffish bed-and-breakfast owner, you’re going to DEVOUR this book.

Set in the 90s, the story follows Michelle, a recently divorced marketing exec from Seattle. Her parents had retired to a sweet little town in Vermont to run a bed-in-breakfast. After her mother’s death, Michelle steps in to run the family business until her younger sister graduates college. Michelle is determined to treat the few months in Vermont as a quick emotional refresh before moving back to Seattle, but her charming neighbor, Cliff, is determined to change her mind.

This book was a cozy, nostalgic hug. It had full Hallmark & Stars Hollow vibes, complete with nosy townspeople, adorable angst, and incredible chemistry and tension. It does follow a very classic small town romance formula, but it was an incredibly fun read!

I’d recommend this book to anyone who’s lit a fall candle, googled “90s fall fashion”, or has already started watching Gilmore Girls!
