As Roark’s two lives collide, he must fight to protect the woman he loves and outsmart those throughout the kingdoms who want his power for themselves. Lyra must wade through long-kept secrets, rising battles, and vicious court intrigue—all while keeping her feelings for Roark at bay.

Andrews had left me absolutely desperately for this sequel, and I was absolutely thrilled when I received this advanced copy. The first book ended in an absolute world-changing twist, setting up Heir of Twisted Lies in a new kingdom, with changed dynamics between the main characters and a whole world to get to know.
The Stonegate series features several kingdoms with a Norse/viking aesthetic and belief systems. Our main characters, Lyra and Roark, are both outliers in the Stonegate kingdom, thrown together because Lyra has a uniquely powerful magic ability, and Roark was assigned as her keeper when she was taken by the Stonegate king. Now, Lyra and Roark have escaped from Stonegate, and it’s quickly revealed that Roark had been deceiving everyone, including Lyra.
I really enjoyed the enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Lyra and Roark in Broken Souls and Bones, and that dynamic is still a key feature in the second book. The same secondary characters were also still heavily featured in the second book, which was a delight! My only caveat with this book was that the pacing was a little slow to start and rushed to finish!
If you enjoyed Broken Souls and Bones, you already knew you had to read this book! And if you haven’t read the first book and still read this review, you absolutely need to read both books!
Thanks to Netgalley and Berkley for the free advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!
